When Pacha Greenwell was set a homeschooling task to adapt the words of a famous song she ended up raising money for a good cause along the way too.
The 13-year-old Clayton Hall Academy pupil rewrote She’s Electric by Oasis as We’re in Lockdown, then created a Gallagher brothers-style video performing it alongside her nine-year-old brother, Chace.
Their friends and family were so entertained that they donated a total of £350 for charity.
Proud mum Michelle Greenwell said: “Pacha was set an assignment by her music teacher then I shared her new lyrics on Facebook. A friend commented and suggested I get them to do a music video, so it all started from there.
“Pacha and her younger brother took on the roles of Noel and Liam Gallagher for the video then we shared the video on a fund-raising page so that people could make donations after watching it.”
Michelle and her children wanted the money to benefit frontline healthcare staff working with Covid-19 patients as their own family has been directly affected.
Michelle said: “I’ve lost an auntie to Covid-19 and we had someone else on a ventilator for 43 days. It’s has an impact on our family.
“Pacha was adamant that she wanted the money to buy things for medical staff, to help them and to make their life easier.”
After chatting to a friend who is a member of the nursing team on a Royal Stoke respiratory ward, the family spent the money on radios and TV remote controls for patients plus treats including hair bobbles, lip balm, tissues, coffee and teabags for staff.
Michelle said: “We wanted to do something for the staff but the staff were just thinking about the patients and things that might help them. In the end we took their ideas and then added in some treats for the staff on the ward too.”
She added: “The response to Pacha’s song was unbelievable. We’re really thrilled and want to thank everyone who donated.
Now Pacha has been nominated for an Our Heroes Award, in the Bright Young Thing category.
