‘Show us what he can do’ – former Stoke City and Aston Villa youth player Harry McKirdy training with Port Vale

Former Carlisle winger Harry McKirdy is training with Port Vale.

The 23 year old, who is from Trentham, is a free agent after he was released by the Cumbrians at the end of last season.

The Vale have a vacancy for a forward after Rhys Browne had his contract terminated last week by mutual consent.

So, McKirdy is one of two forwards who is training with the club.

Manager John Askey said: “He is available, he lives locally and with Rhys Browne going, it gives him an opportunity to come in and show us what he can do.

“He can play right or left side so we thought we would have a look.”

McKirdy was in Stoke City’s youth system from the ages of seven to 14, before switching to Aston Villa.

The former pupil of St Joseph’s College, Trent Vale, had loans at Stevenage, Crewe and Newport before joining Carlisle on a free in the summer of 2019.

He started 26 games last season, including playing 90 minutes in Carlisle’s 2-1 defeat at Vale Park in November.
