‘Significant’ – Stoke City’s Carabao Cup opponents confirm selection plans

Stoke City will face a much-changed Gillingham side in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash.

The Potters made it through to the third round last week with a 1-0 win at Premier League Wolves.

Meanwhile, the League One Gills squeezed past Championship Coventry City on penalties, despite fielding a below-strength side.

And the Gills have confirmed there will also be plenty of changes for the trip to Bet365 Stadium.

An update issued on their official website read: “The management team are working on preparing the squad for a trip to Stoke on Wednesday but, ahead of his [manager Steve Evans’] pre-match interviews on Tuesday, has confirmed that there will be multiple, and significant changes, to the line-up that takes to the pitch for the Carabao Cup game.”

Prior to the Coventry tie, Evans made it clear the competition meant little to him.

“We will have a look at training and pick a team for Coventry but I have no interest,” said Evans.

“The reward is going to Stoke or Wolves. I have got no real interest but we will honour the competition as best we can.”

The winners of Wednesday’s tie will travel to Bristol City or Aston Villa in the fourth round.
