Small sacrifice – Stoke City number one plays safe over son

Jack Butland says he is putting the ball into Row Z – so to speak – when it comes to protecting his family from the coronavirus threat.

Butland has happily self isolated at home and reluctantly told his grandparents to stay away when it comes to his son George’s first birthday shortly.

“I’ve certainly limited contact with people I don’t need contact with,” says the Stoke City number one.

“My little man’s birthday is coming up and my grandparents were invited, but we’ve tailed that back simply for the health and safety of family because you just don’t know.

“We are going to keep ourselves confined and limit the contact we have,” he told BBC Radio Stoke, “because ultimately the most important thing is keeping the family safe.”

At the time of George’s birth, fans took to social media to congratulate their goalkeeper and fiancee Anabel…

Alan Morgan: U know score @JackButland_One. Bring him up as a Potter… surely that’s the law. Your child should support the club you are playing for at the time. LOL. Congratulations anyway to u and the missus.

Scott Peters:‏ Can his son play left back?

Tom Longshaw: Congrats to the both of you. @JackButland_One is it too early to sign George up?

Andy Holt: Congratulations to your partner and yourself @JackButland_One
