Something to shout about – Stoke City star in pledge to fans ahead of Blackburn test

Joe Allen says he and his team-mates owe travelling Stoke City fans at Ewood Park tonight.

Stoke actually won on their last visit there under Nathan Jones last season, but Allen admits that wins and good performances have been too few and too far between on the road.

Speaking in the shadow of both last Saturday’s home win over Cardiff and the sorry loss at QPR seven days earlier, the popular Welsh international said: “We will take confidence from beating Cardiff after a bit of a hammer blow on the road last time.

“We want to make sure we get back to the levels we’ve shown in the odd game away from home.

“Our performances on the road still need to pick up and we need to give the travelling fans a bit more to cheer because they have been turning up in their numbers as well.

“We know if we perform similar to the Cardiff win, we will give Blackburn a good game.”

Stoke were beaten at home by Blackburn on November 30 – one of only two home defeats under Michael O’Neill – and Allen remembers the game well.

“They caused us a few problems when they played us here at home and we have to deal with a couple of their threats a bit better.

“They are a team that have different qualities and we will have to be on top of our game, we know that, but with the belief growing in the team there’s no reason why we can’t go and perform well and try to take all three points.”
