The shop worker stabbed in the abdomen in an unprovoked attack is making a good recovery from her injuries.
The 49-year-old had approached a man while working at the Premier Store in Shady Grove, Alsager, at around 6.05am on Friday.
She had asked if she could help him before she was then stabbed and the man fled on foot. The woman was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment.
A 26-year-old man was arrested the following day in connection with the incident and he has since been detained under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act.
Police officers were also seen in Goss Place, Alsager, in connection with the incident.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said the woman remained in hospital.
He added: “A man arrested in relation to a serious incident in Alsager has been detained under Section 2 of the Metal Health Act.
“The 26-year-old local man was arrested on Saturday 9 January on suspicion of section 18 assault.
“The victim remains in hospital at this time where she is making a good recovery from her injuries.”
