Staffordshire Greggs branch targeted by armed robber who escapes with cash



An armed robber escaped with cash after a targeting a Greggs branch.

The raider was armed with a ‘Taser-type device’ when he threatened two female members of staff and forced them to open a safe before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The raid happened at Greggs, in Baker’s Lane, Lichfield, at 7.40am today.

It is reported the stun device was used on one of the women, who was left unhurt but distressed.

Now Staffordshire Police have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of robbery, possessing class A drugs and stealing a motor vehicle. He was arrested at 9am after officers stopped a vehicle in Derbyshire.

The search is continuing for a second suspect.

Detective Sergeant Peter Brazendale said: “We want to reassure people that this was an isolated incident. We have patrols in the area and, following a swift first arrest, enquiries are ongoing to locate another man we believe was involved.

“This was a frightening experience for the women at the shop and we welcome any information the public can provide to assist us.”
