Staffordshire Olympic Champion Adam Peaty and his partner Eiri are expecting a child – the swimmer has confirmed today.
Peaty, who last year set a world record by becoming the first man to swim 100m breaststroke in under 57 seconds, announced the news on Twitter today after an article was published by a national newspaper.
In a statement online the 25-year-old, from Uttoxeter, said he was ‘over the moon’ to announce Eiri was pregant.
He said: “We are expecting our baby in September. I wanted to release this news next week when we are having our scan and will find out if it’s a boy or a girl but that has been taken completely out of our control.”
Peaty added: “I already feel the overwhelming love that I have for our child and nothing will take that away from me.
“I cannot wait to become a father.”
