Stoke City boss gives six a chance v Leicester as new boy takes place on bench

New signing Rabbi Matondo is named on the Stoke City bench as Michael O’Neill gives experience a chance against Leicester in the FA Cup.

The manager is using this third round tie to ease back Ryan Shawcross, Sam Clucas, John Obi Mikel and Joe Allen after absences through injury. Danny Batth also comes back into the starting XI, as does Sam Vokes, with both having been stuck on the fringes.

It is a first start of the season for captain Shawcross, who has had an 18-month nightmare in the treatment room with leg, calf and groin.

Clucas, Allen and Mikel start together in a midfield three while Jacob Brown and Vokes are up front.

O’Neill’s hand is still forced in terms of formation due to an injury to left-back Morgan Fox and Tommy Smith and James McClean will be used as wing-backs.

Leicester only make two changes from their 2-1 win at Newcastle United in the Premier League last weekend. Jamie Vardy and James Morrison are nursing niggling injuries but Brendan Rodgers has otherwise gone as strong as possible.
