Stoke City player ratings vs Brentford as Ivan Toney proves too hot to handle

Ivan Toney eventually forced the winner for Brentford as Stoke City gave up an early lead. Here are the player ratings from the Brentford Community Stadium.

Gunn: Good save from Ghoddos long ranger but two past him again on the road. 6

Smith: In good position to take advantage of Raya mistake to set up Brown. 6

Norrington-Davies: Offered a useful outlet down the left but lucky not to be shown a second yellow before being hooked at half-time. 6

Chester: Big influence at the back on return to starting XI but couldn’t see out job in second half. 6

Batth: Happy to help take responsibility with Toney. 7

Souttar: A big tactical, physical and technical test against Toney but couldn’t afford to give him even one sighter. 7

Allen: Busy but Stoke need him to turn that into dominant rather than sprinkles of good stuff. 6

Thompson: On a booking when he was taken off at half-time. 6

Mikel: Wound up at times and had to be held back by Smith after provocation from Ghoddos.

Powell: Not all that much to feed on. Hooked wide in second half and fluffed a late volley. 6

Brown: In right place early on to score open goal. Put in hard yards. 7


Tymon (for Norrington-Davies, 46): Slotted in at wing-back and had a couple of chances to send in crosses. 6

Cousins (for Thompson, 46): Hit the crossbar with looping effort on the stretch. 6

Vokes (for Brown, 82): Gave Stoke a different option in attack in closing stages. 6

Clarke (for Chester, 82): On for final few minutes to run at defenders. 6

Not used: Davies, Oakley-Boothe, Forrester, Coates, Norton.
