Stoke City team news v Swansea as Michael O’Neill makes one change

Steven Fletcher returns from injury to immediately return to the Stoke City starting XI against Swansea.

Fletcher replaces Jordan Thompson in the only change to the side that lost 2-1 at Brentford on Saturday. That gives Michael O’Neill the option to go 3-4-3, with Nick Powell on the left, or 3-5-2, with Powell in attacking midfield.

Assistant manager Billy McKinlay told Radio Stoke: “We didn’t think the knock (Fletch) got at Barnsley but it was obviously enough to keep him out of Saturday’s game. He comes back in and he’s been in good form recently. Hopefully he’ll add his quality tonight when we need it.”

Stoke start the night in 11th with 13 games to play and the gap to the top six is looking increasingly difficult to close.

But McKinlay said: “There’s always something to play for. You’re representing the club, there’s personal pride and nothing is done until it’s done. We concede nothing, absolutely not. But we have to put a run together which is better than the run we’ve been on.

“We look to get a win tonight and worry about the rest as and when it comes.”

Swansea, meanwhile, are hoping to chase down top two Norwich and Brentford in the two automatic promotion spots.

“It’s a good side having a good season,” said McKinlay. “They will be looking to bounce back from a poor result, as we are. As usual, more of the focus is on us.

“It’s a good game. In the earlier game this season we didn’t do ourselves justice and lost fairly convincingly on the night. We are looking to address that and get back to winning ways.”
