Stoke City to head to Molineux for first time in nine years after Carabao Cup second round draw

Stoke City will meet Wolves for the first ever time in the League Cup after the two sides were paired at Molineux in the second round.

It will be Stoke’s first trip to Molineux since December 2011, a match best remembered for Jonathan Woodgate ending an experiment at right-back after just 19 minutes when Stoke went on to win 2-1.

They met at the bet365 Stadium in the FA Cup in January 2017 when Wolves were still in the Championship mid-table with Paul Lambert in charge. Bojan and Giannelli Imbula were hooked at half-time by Mark Hughes as Wolves won 2-0.

Stoke earned their place in the second round with a penalty shoot-out win over Blackpool last weekend while Premier League Wolves enter at this stage.

The tie will be played on either Tuesday, September 15 or Wednesday, September 22. The third round will take place the following mid-week – with the winners from Wolves and Stoke drawn at home against the winners from Gillingham versus Coventry.
