Stoke City’s new season will start just 38 days after the old one finished.
A Carabao Cup first round tie against Blackpool has been brought forward to Saturday, August 29 (3pm). The game had been originally scheduled for Saturday, September 5 but that was in the middle of an international break.
Stoke start their Championship season on Saturday, September 12 at Millwall as fixtures were confirmed this morning.
The campaign is being squeezed into eight months, meaning 14 mid-week games before any cup ties are taken into account.
Carabao Cup rounds two, three and four will be played on consecutive midweeks dates starting on either the 15 or 16 of September.
Premier League sides will enter the competition in round two or round three if they are competing in a European competition. Two legged semi-finals will be replaced by a single tie.
Blackpool finished 13th in League One in 2019/20 but have lost 18-goal top scorer Armand Gnanduillet. They sold Jordan Thompson to Stoke in January.
Manager Neil Critchley, the former Crewe and Liverpool youth coach, has brought in six new signings including winger CJ Hamilton, from Mansfield Town; strikers Jerry Yates, from Rotherham, and Keshi Anderson, from Swindon; and midfielder Oliver Sarkic, from Burton Albion.
