Duncan Watmore will be staying at Middlesbrough after signing a new contract today.
The 26-year-old has been linked with clubs including Stoke City as he came towards the end of a short-term deal he signed as a free agent in November after three years plagued by injuries.
He has proven his fitness and a scoring touch – five goals in eight games – under Neil Warnock, who was prepared to play hard ball in the fight to keep him on Teesside.
And now he has signed a deal until 2023, with Warnock saying: “We’re delighted to get him on board. I don’t think it was ever in doubt that he would sign with us because he has loved every minute of it here so far.
“He gets on with the players and the staff, and he is really enjoying himself.
“He’s a real good lad. We’re looking forward to having him here on a longer-term basis now and hopefully seeing him score plenty more goals for the club.”
