Sam Clucas’s 90-yard dash in 20 seconds to score winner at Newcastle United
The move started down by the corner flag at the other end of the pitch.
Newcastle United were attacking down their right wing and there, in shot, is Stoke City captain Sam Clucas. The cross comes over and… within 20 seconds Stoke had scored via a six-man move that took them down the pitch.
Danny Batth smashed a header out of defence, Lee Gregory earned space to turn and whack a long pass to Sam Vokes, who held off his man before slipping in Clucas to skip past one defender and play inside for Nick Powell.
Powell took three touches to send it down the inside right for Tommy Smith, who took one touch before pinging a deep cross over to Clucas, running in towards the six-yard box to arc a header over Karl Darlow and inside the right post.
Stoke had wanted this kind of game, to have to defend – and have to break – as their final warm-up match before the Championship starts next week and this was the kind of counter attack that Michael O’Neill wants to see this season.
