Bully Shane Gordon assaulted his wife and threatened to kill her – after overhearing her spilling the beans about their sex life to a friend.
The 27-year-old had subjected his victim to three consecutive days of violent abuse when she managed to run to a house and alert the police.
Now her abusive husband has been jailed for 18 months after he admitted three charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the abuse started on July 10.
Prosecutor Steven Bailey said: “During the day he was throwing tomato sauce and water in the bedroom.
“She was having to redecorate and clear up and he kicked her in the face bruising her eye. That evening he wanted a curry to be delivered.
“It was their standard order, but the restaurant got it wrong. He gave the curry to the dog and continued terrorising her.
“She drove him to a pizza takeaway in Normacot and got there at 2am. Her bruises were showing so he picked up the pizza and they drove home.
“He stayed downstairs and she went to the bedroom to eat her pizza. But he didn’t stay downstairs and went up to her, demanding that she ate her food.
“He pushed the pizza and doner meat to her face, grabbing her throat and throttling her.”
The court heard that – on July 12 – Gordon was going out and took his wife to her friend’s house as he didn’t trust her to be alone at home.
But he flipped when he overheard a discussion about their sex life, repeatedly hit her, and threatened to crash their car.
Mr Bailey added: “When she thought he had gone she talked to this woman about various aspects of their relationship and sex life.
“Unfortunately he hadn’t gone out and overheard what she said. He told her ‘you’re dead’, demanded she got in the car and drove her to Park Hall.
“He kept hitting her in the face and the road took them past the Auctioneers Arms, in Caverswall. She managed to get out of the car, but he hit her twice in the head.
“She managed to ring 999 without him knowing but she was unable to speak as he had her in a headlock and was forcing her back in the car and her eyebrow was scratched by his watch.
“She took over the driving as he threatened to crash the car. They parked at the Auctioneers Arms car park and she ran to a nearby house and waited there for the police to come.”
Gordon, of Pretoria Road, Etruria, claimed his wife had attacked him and he was defending himself. The couple had been together since 2018 and married on August 30 last year.
Andrew Turnock, mitigating, said: “The individual injuries are relatively minor.
“He saw his marriage to this lady as an opportunity for salvation and to make changes. He got himself a job and was trying his best to part with his past and to have a more promising future with her as a married man.
“He expresses remorse through me and accepts the inevitable sentence is custody.”
Jailing him, Judge Paul Glenn said: “You could be extremely violent towards her, domineering and frankly a bully.
“You ordered her about, insulted and humiliated her swearing at her and verbally abusing her, bullying her in front of others. You assaulted her over three consecutive days.
“Kicking her face, punching, slapping, grabbing her throat, pushing food into her face. You overheard her talking about you to another female and made threats in your car to kill her and she thought you may well carry that out.”
