Stoke-on-Trent City Council ward budgets: How your councillor has spent their £5k

Here’s how much your councillor in Stoke-on-Trent has spent on their annual allowances – and which community projects benefited.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council gives every elected member a dedicated budget of £5,000-a-year to address local priorities and issues within their wards. These are normally identified through their local communities.

It is a councillor-led process, and it is the responsibility of ward councillors to promote its availability and encourage individuals and groups to submit suggestions for proposed projects and needed work within their ward.

The councillor who has so far spent the least is David Williams.

Explaining why he had spent no money so far, he said: “I have money allocated. I normally spend earlier. I was concerned that, while good causes may get some support earlier on, with subsequent waves of Covid, a number of organisations supporting people may have difficultly during the latter part of the year.

“Normally, I would spend evenly over the year. I have a few thousand.  I am actually doing ward budget forms for right now. Working in the voluntary sector, I had been concerned financial hit for them may be during second period during Covid.”

The councillor who spent the most was Candi Chetwynd, who used her entire £5,000 budget on a range of causes, including foodbanks.

Below is the definitive list of what your councillors spent between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021 as of December 15:
