Stoke-on-Trent community ‘devastated’ by death of young mum as flowers and cards left outside house

Paramedics have revealed there was nothing they could do to save the life of a young mum whose death is being treated as ‘unexplained’.

Flowers and cards have been left outside the property on East Terrace, Fegg Hayes.

One of the cards reads: “There are no words to describe just how sad and gutted we are. We cannot believe you are gone. Taken way too soon.

“You will missed by everyone who knew you. The school-run won’t be the same because we used to hear you before we saw you! RIP babes, fly high.”

The death has stunned the tight-knit Fegg Hayes community.

A police presence remains outside the property on East Terrace, Fegg Hayes, following the ‘unexplained’ death of a young mum

Fegg Hayes Residents’ Association leader Sue Akkurt, aged 53, said: “We’re so upset. The residents and community want to send their love to the family. We are devastated for her family and her little boy.

“I did not know her personally, but would always say ‘hello’ to her. She’s a young mum and it’s heartbreaking. No-one can believe what has happened. For a light to be switched off like that is unimaginable. We have lost enough people in lockdown.

“We’re such a close-knit community down here and it’s really affected everyone. It was her birthday last month and she was out on her doorstep last Thursday clapping for the carers, and now she’s gone. It doesn’t make sense.

“If her family needs anything we want them to know that we are here for them.”

Emergency services were called to the property at around midday on Sunday, May 31. A police cordon remained in place across the front of the address yesterday morning.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a medical emergency at a property on East Terrace. One ambulance attended the scene and we discovered a woman.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A police officer remained on guard outside the property yesterday morning. A police car with an officer inside was stationed at the back of the house. Forensics officers were seen at the property on Sunday.

The result of any post-mortem examination has not been disclosed.

Anyone with any information about the ‘unexplained’ death should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 242 of May 31.
