Stoke-on-Trent now seeing more than 1,000 Covid cases a week

Stoke-on-Trent is now seeing more than 1,000 confirmed Covid-19 cases a week, as the local outbreak continues to grow.

The city had 1,086 positive coronavirus tests in the seven days up to November 5, which equates to a weekly infection rate of 423.6 cases per 100,000 population.

This is an increase from 340.5 per 100,000 over the previous week, which saw a total of 873 cases.

Newcastle is still seeing even more cases relative to its population, with a seven-day rate of 442.7 per 100,000 – the 23rd highest in England.

The Staffordshire Moorlands currently has a weekly rate of 387.1, while in Stafford it stands at 381.7.

Cheshire East’s latest figures show that the borough’s outbreak remains stable, with a weekly rate of 212.9, compared to 217.4 over the previous seven days.

Oldham continues to have the highest rate in England, with 1,835 new cases recorded in the seven days to November 5 – the equivalent of 773.9 cases per 100,000 people.
