A pervert has been locked up for three years after sexually abusing a schoolgirl.
Thayalan Thurasingham groped his victim before telling her not to share their secret.
But the youngster bravely reported the incident to Staffordshire Police and the 59-year-old was arrested.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the defendant told the girl ‘do not tell anyone about this’ after carrying out his attack.
An examination of his mobile phone showed he had previously visited a number of pornography websites.
In his police interview the defendant denied the offence. He said he had been drinking wine, beer and whisky but denied being drunk.
The court heard the victim felt disgusted and was very upset by her ordeal.
Thurasingham, of Snow Hill, Shelton, pleaded guilty to a charge of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.
Stephen Rudge, mitigating, said: “He is remorseful and apologetic for his behaviour. He is aware of the impact the offending has had on his victim.”
Mr Rudge added that the incident was a one-off and argued the defendant could be managed in the community rather than sent to prison.
Jailing Thurasingham, Judge David Fletcher said: “This was appalling behaviour. The consumption of alcohol is an aggravating feature.”
In addition to the prison sentence, the defendant has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the rest of his life. He is also now subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order until further notice.
