Parents of pupils at a Stoke-on-Trent school have tonight been contacting StokeonTrentLive to report their children have been told to stay off school after a student tested positive for Covid-19.
The Discovery Academy, in Bentilee, has tonight sent an email to parents saying a pupil in Year 11 has tested positive for the coronavirus over the weekend – and asking people from that year group to stay home while they await further advice from Public Heath England.
The latest email, sent on to StokeonTrentLive by a number of parents, was sent out shortly after 9.15pm this evening.
In it the academy said: “Over the weekend we have been informed that a year 11 student has a confirmed case of Covid-19.
“This is unconnected to any other case.

“We have been advised by Public Health England, and as a precaution we are asking all year 11 to stay at home until PHE advise us further.”
Last week the high school said a member of staff at the academy had tested positive for the coronavirus – but added the infected person had ‘not been in close contact with any students or staff’.
