Stoke-on-Trent sees 73 new coronavirus cases as seven-day infection rate drops


There have been another 73 new coronavirus cases across Stoke-on-Trent as the seven-day infection rate continues to fall.

Latest figures from Public Health England show there have now been a total of 16,472 positive covid-19 cases since the pandemic began in March.

But the city’s seven-day infection rate, which is taken from data up to January 21, shows there are now 335.4 positive cases per 100,000 people in the city.

Dr Paul Edmondson-Jones, the director of social care, health and well-being Stoke-on-Trent Council welcomed the news.

He said: “Locally good – new cases notified just 76 and seven-day rate down to 335.4 and may fall further next few days. Let’s keep this going – we are fighting back!”

Across the Staffordshire County Council area there have been another 219 cases notified to Public Health England as of 4.30pm today (January 26).

This means there have now been 48,940 positive coronavirus infections across the county since the pandemic began.

Across the county line in Cheshire East there have been another 103 positive test results bringing the total to 17,224 since the start of the pandemic.

There have been another 20,089 across the United Kingdom meaning 3,689,746 have now had the virus.

The data shows 6,853,327 have now received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccination while 472,446 people have had both doses.
