Stoke-on-Trent soft play centre closes for good leaving parents gutted

A popular Stoke-on-Trent soft play centre has shut for good after the coronavirus pandemic devastated the business.

The owner of Funsters has announced the permanent closure of the Burslem site after struggling to make ends meet during lockdown.

All affected customers have now been issued with refunds and the equipment sold off.

However, the Crewe Funsters is not affected by the move and is expected to reopen shortly once the Government gives the green light.

In a statement on Funsters’ Facebook page, managing director Kay Bran said: “We are sad to announce the permanent closure of Funsters Burslem.

“This is a direct result of the current pandemic.

“We are in the process of refunding all parties so please get in touch if you haven’t received a call.

“We would like to thank all of our past and current staff and customers for all the support over the years and hope visit us in Crewe.”

Funsters in Burslem has closed

The announcement of the closure of the Federation Road site has left parents stunned.

Mum Kayleigh Lambert Reynolds said: “It’s such a shame. I have many memories first as a member of staff and second as a parent. We will of course still visit at Crewe.”

Gemma Hayes said: “It was such a wonderful place for children. I’m so sorry they have had to close through this horrible pandemic.”

And Jodie Arrowsmith added: “I’ve got so many memories of Funsters with my eldest whose 12 this year and I’ve started to make memories with my youngest over the last couple of years. I’m so sad to hear this.”

Meanwhile, the Crewe Funsters has opened a new milkshake cafe inside the old church hall in Stalbridge Road.

Kay said: “Since March we have been closed due to Covid-19. Staff have been furloughed and families disappointed.

“The Hall is our response to this. It’s a way we can trade, save our business and bring people together in a safe and compliant manner.

“All of the staff have worked tirelessly at break-neck speed to get it ready.

“The Hall will be a  café  with a difference – serving the best milkshakes in the area with the passion and service that local families have come to expect from Funsters.”
