The team news
Port Vale interim manager Danny Pugh has made seven changes for tonight’s game at Sunderland in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Nathan Smith, Tom Conlon, Alex Hurst and Zak Mills are the only survivors from the side that started Saturday’s 3-0 win at home to Grimsby in Pugh’s first game in charge.
So, Dino Visser, Leon Legge, Adam Crookes, Danny Whitehead, Scott Burgess, David Amoo and Theo Robinson are all called up.
Legge is able to play while serving a two-match league suspension, but Tom Conlon retains the captaincy.
Pugh is expected to line up 4-3-3 with a front three of Alex Hurst, David Amoo and Theo Robinson.
New signing Jake Taylor is on the bench.
Subs: Brown, Fitzpatrick, Brisley, Montano, Taylor, Cullen, Pope.
At stake tonight is £29,500 prize money for the winners and a place in the quarter finals.
