Bert Bentley was commissioned by the Stoke-on-Trent City Archives Department to record the changing face of life in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire during a period of major regeneration and slum clearance. Throughout his time as a photographer Bert has taken some fabulous photographs across the whole of North Staffordshire. These pictures of Hanley are a great example of some of his work over the years – from Old Betty Plants Toffees to the demolition of Lewis’ – there are some truly amazing images here which capture the times just perfectly.
