Take a look inside North Staffordshire’s newest Lidl store

Shoppers had nothing but praise for a ‘fresh’ new Lidl store which opened today in North Staffordshire.

The new supermarket, on Hardingswood Road, Kidsgrove, opened at 8am on February 25.

Staff from the new store were joined by Stoke-on-Trent North MP Jonathan Gullis, Councillor Gill Burnett and Mayor of Kidsgrove Councillor Angela Cooper, who cut the ribbon and told shoppers that they were ‘in for a treat’.

Local residents arrived from as early as 6am to take a look at the new Lidl branch – which joins Aldi and Tesco in the town.

The store has created around 40 new jobs and features an in-store bakery, customer toilets and a large car park.

Shoppers visiting Kidsgrove’s new Lidl

One of the first customers inside the new store was Bill Dale, who joined others eagerly waiting for the grand opening.

“It’s nice to have another store because it gives us some variety,” said the Kidsgrove resident. “We’ve now got Tesco Aldi and Lidl all on our doorstep.

“The prices are always good and there’s lots on offer so I’m glad to have a Lidl in Kidsgrove – it’s really convenient.

“Having a new development is great because it all looks nice and new. Land can stay undeveloped for too long so I’m glad they’ve built something – it keeps the area looking new and fresh.”

Another happy shopper was Robert Freeman, from Kidsgrove – who was picking up essentials on Thursday morning.

The 68-year-old said: “The store is nice and clean and there’s a big variety of products – I’ll definitely be coming here from now on.

“In other supermarkets they never have any tills on, and you can have 15 people queuing for one till, but I had no problem in Lidl today.

“They even gave us a free bunch of flowers which was nice – I gave mine to a lady as I left the store.”

And Sharon Phillips, from Kidsgrove, was looking forward to finding a ‘bargain’.

The 45-year-old said: “I’m glad we’ve got a Lidl so close to us now, and I think it will be a bit of competition for other stores like Tesco.

“Lidl always has some good bargains and I do tend to get a lot for my money when I shop there.”

Lidl official Dominic Bryan said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing our new store to Kidsgrove.

“It is great for us to be able to create more jobs in the area, and we are proud to serve the local community at this time.”

The new store on Hardingswood Road is open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
