Tested to the max – Stoke City midfielder on what should happen next to team-mate

Stoke City new boy James Chester will win an international return next month – if team-mate Joe Allen has anything to do with it.

Allen has been impressed with Chester’s form since he joined on loan from Aston Villa and reckons he should earn a return to the Wales ranks from manager Ryan Giggs.

Allen and Chester ushered in a clean sheet during Saturday’s 2-0 victory for Stoke over Cardiff and the midfielder says of Chester: “He played more games last week than I think he had in a year.

“He has been tested to the max and come through it.”

Allen, who isn’t looking too shoddy himself, told BBC Wales: “He is looking as good as ever which is good news all round.

“It’s a big boost for Stoke – he has come in and helped us massively – and we are giving him the chance to play regularly, which gives him a big boost on the international side.

“I was thrilled when we were able to sign him.

“He has had a tough year, but to be back playing regularly and as well as he is, it’s a huge boost for Welsh football and he is more than putting himself in contention for the games in March.”

Chester, who has 35 caps to his name, will be all ears when Giggs announces his squad for next month’s friendlies against Austria and the United States on March 27 and 30 respectively.
