‘Thank you’ – Port Vale taken aback by season ticket sales

Port Vale have already sold more than 800 season tickets for the 2020/21 campaign, with some fans buying theirs even after the current season was suspended.

The season-tickets initially went on sale in January when they could be paid for in instalments. But some fans have bought online since football was put on hold in March.

Chief executive Colin Garlick says many fans will understandably have other priorities during the coronavirus crisis as jobs and businesses are affected as well as public health.

So, he’s grateful to all the support the club has been shown, including those who have been able to commit to season tickets long before the scheduled early-bird deadline at the end of June.  Vale sold 4,000 season tickets for the current 2019/20 campaign.

He said: “We set off in January with prices frozen and were offering the six-monthly instalments with the early bird prices. They went really well and then we extended that into February across a five-month instalment plan and that also went really well.

“But in January and February it wasn’t only people taking advantage of the instalments, there were people who paid for the full season as well. But even since February and in the current crisis, we have still had people buying season tickets.

“I have been talking to supporters on the phone just in general in the last week who were looking to renew. We went online for renewals and sales of season tickets for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We had a few teething problems with that but I think we are through them now.

“If you think about the current climate, we don’t even know about this season yet, but people are continuing to commit.

“I think that says a lot about our supporters and certainly how far the club has come over the last 12 months in particular.

“To have 20 per cent of our season tickets in place already is remarkable.”
