A Stoke-on-Trent hotel has featured on popular television show – with a mixed response.
The Potbank Aparthotel, in Stoke, appeared on the 14th series of Channel 4’s Four in a Bed earlier today.
The hotel’s project manager Ashley Booth and his partner Jennifer Ellis, who works as the receptionist, compete against three other B&B owners to see who runs the best establishment.
Each owner judges the venue where he or she stays and pays for the room – with The Potbank featuring first this week.
First impressions of the Stoke hotel – which charges up to £150 a night with breakfast as an extra – were good, with the other three ‘competitors – Trevor from Blackpool, Cara and Jamie from Willaston in Cheshire and Helen and Gary from County Durham – describing the hotel as ‘spacious, lovely and clean’, as well as ‘quirky and contemporary’.
And, everyone seemed to be as equally as impressed with the hosts too – describing Ash and Jen as ‘very friendly, bubbly nice guys’ as they all enjoyed an afternoon tubing at Stoke Ski Centre, followed by an evening meal at The Wayfarer near Trentham.
And although the guests described the full English breakfast the next morning as great, they weren’t so keen on the cheese and bacon oatcakes, with one guest saying they were disappointing’ describing them as ‘a bit bland and would’ve been better with spinach and peppers’.
Trevor from Blackpool – who initially didn’t know what an oatcake was, said: “Oatcakes are basically a pancake and we’ve been eating them in Yorkshire for years’. He later admitted it was ‘very tasty’.
At the end of the show, Trevor said he would return to the hotel but the other two guests decided they wouldn’t, saying there was huge potential but was a missed opportunity – despite earlier in the show saying both Jen and Ash were doing a great job.
At the end of the show, each guest placed money in an envelope of how much they thought their stay was worth – and all will be revealed later in the week when all four B&Bs have been visited.
– You can see Four in a Bed on Channel 4 at 5pm on weekdays.
