One school in Stoke-on-Trent will be open this weekend.
Ormiston Meridian Academy in Sandon Road, Meir, will be open for children whose parents are key workers. Many schools in the area were operating throughout the whole two-week Easter holiday – with about 400 pupils a day believed to have attended school during this time.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council leader Abi Brown said: “What we’ve seen in the city is schools coming together to support key-workers and it’s been good to see.
“Their efforts to ensure young people are being cared for while their parents go out and provide support and care for us during one of the most difficult times is great to see.”
It has been recommended that all staff who volunteer to work over Easter should be paid an extra £20 per hour which is in line with the rates offered to teachers running summer schools.
