This thief has been jailed after pinching cash, cards and clothes from cars in three-day crime spree

Thieving Jade Cobden has been jailed after stealing cash, cards and clothes from three cars.

The 26-year-old carried out her three-day crime spree last month.

North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the defendant:

  • Stole bank cards and cash from a car on May 23 and used the cards to buy goods worth £20.80 and £90.50;

  • Stole sunglasses and clothes worth £80 from a vehicle in Bucknall the following day;

  • Stole sunglasses and clothes worth £50 from a car in Hanley on May 26.

Prosecutor Dylan Wagg said: “The cards stolen in the first theft were used in subsequent transactions. The defendant made full admissions in interview.”

Cobden, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to three thefts and two frauds.

The offences placed the defendant in breach of a four-month suspended prison sentence.

The court heard the defendant had lost her accommodation and was living on the streets.

Angela Trafford, mitigating, said: “She felt she had no choice but to commit the offences because she had no money. She committed the offences out of desperation. She is a very vulnerable young lady.”

District Judge Timothy Boswell activated the four-month suspended sentence and jailed Cobden for a further 10 weeks for the thefts and frauds. She must also pay a £128 surcharge.
