Traffic chaos in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire as snow hits M6, A500, A50 and A34


Snow has fallen in the region overnight – bringing chaos to the roads in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.

Thousands of people have woken to a covering of snow this morning as the Met Office issued a weather warning for snow and ice, in place until 6pm today.

Traffic monitoring system INRIX have reported a number of problems on the roads, including the A500 being blocked in both directions between the A34 Talke Road (Talke Roundabout, Red Street) and M6 J16 (Stoke-On-Trent / Crewe, Barthomley ).

Meanwhile, the A50 between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter is also very slow due to the snow and there are reports of vehicles strugling to drive along Cobridge Road in Burslem.

Elsewhere in the area, the A34 Liverpool Road is blocked in both directions blocked due to broken down lorries and snow at Brymbo Road and on the M6 two lanes are closed and slow traffic due to jackknifed lorry on M6 Southbound between J16 A500 (Stoke-On-Trent / Crewe) and J15 A500 D Road (Stoke-On-Trent).

Other problems include:

– Slow traffic due to snow on M6 from J15 A500 D Road (Stoke-On-Trent) to J13 A449 (Stafford South).
Cameras show heavy snow falling and settling on the motorway.

– Very slow traffic due to snow on A34 Stone Road between A51 (Aston Island, Stone) and A513 Beaconside (Stafford).
Due to the inclines along this stretch, traffic is struggling especially around Yarlet.

– Queueing traffic on exit slip road due to snow on M6 Southbound at J15 A500 D Road (Stoke-On-Trent).

Vehicles are struggling up the incline on the exit slip where the lights are which is backing up down the motorway.
