Travellers set up camp at North Staffordshire supermarket car park


Travellers have set up camp on a North Staffordshire supermarket car park.

Four caravans made their way onto the car park of Sainsbury’s in Newcastle at around 7.40pm last night.

This incident occurred around an hour after a group of travellers left the car park at Biddulph Valley Leisure Centre. It is unknown if the group in Newcastle are part of the Biddulph group.

The caravans at Sainsbury’s are parked at the opposite end of the car park to the store entrance.

Police have been notified and are working to resolve the matter.

A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said: “Officers were made aware of caravans parked at Sainsbury’s on Liverpool Road in Newcastle-under-Lyme at 7.40pm last night (June 16).

“Staffordshire Police is working closely with partners to reassure local residents and resolve the matter.”
