There are delays on the M6 motorway in Cheshire this afternoon due to a stranded vehicle.
Firefighters and Highways England are with the vehicle – which is on the southbound carriageway between junction 18 (Holmes Chapel/Middlewich) and junction 17 (Congleton/Sandbach).
The vehicle was first reported at around 3.30pm.
Recovery is on the way and traffic is queueing.
A Highways England spokesman said: “Two lanes have been closed due to a stranded vehicle. Traffic Officers & Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently at scene, Recovery are on their way to the area to assist.”
Inrix, the traffic data company, reports traffic was being temporarily held.
Inrix said: “Two lanes closed, long delays and queueing traffic due to broken down car on M6 Southbound from J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) to J17 A534 Old Mill Road (Sandbach / Crewe).
“Lanes one and two (of four) are closed. Traffic was held for 10 minutes until around 15:55 to aid with recovery work.”
“Traffic has been held since around 15:45 to help recover a breakdown in lane two.”
This is unconnected to a police incident near Lymm Interchange that has shut the carriageway in both directions.
