Two lanes are closed on the M6 motorway due to an accident near the Staffordshire/Cheshire border this evening (Monday June 15).
Inrix, the traffic data company, reports the lanes are shut following a crash on the northbound carriageway between Junction 16 (A500/Stoke-On-Trent / Crewe) and J17 (A534 Old Mill Road Sandbach / Crewe).
Traffic cameras show vehicles are queueing just north of junction 16.
The collision was first reported shortly before 7pm.
A Highways England spokesman said: “The M6 northbound J16 (Nantwich/Crewe/A500) to J17 (Congleton/Sandbach/A534)
“Two lanes have been closed due to a collision. Traffic Officers & Recovery are on their way to the area.”
We have no further information on the number or type of vehicles involved in this accident at this stage.
Traffic England currently estimates normal travel conditions will be restored by 9pm – although these times are always subject to change.
