Two lanes of M6 closed due to ‘police incident’



Police have closed two lanes of the M6 due to a ‘police incident’ this evening.

Motorway cops were called to the southbound carriageway between junction 18 for Holmes Chapel and junction 17 for Sandbach shortly before 10pm this evening (April 11).

Motorists are now being urged to take care when passing through.

Details of what the police incident involves have not yet been released.

A Highways England spokesman said: “Two lanes are closed of the M6 southbound at junction 18 for Holmes Chapel to junction 17 for Sandbach due to a police incident.

“North West motorway police are at the scene. @NWmwaypolice at scene dealing. Please take care if travelling through this area tonight.”

Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: “Two lanes closed due to police incident on M6 Southbound from junction 18 for the A54 Middlewich Road to junction 17 for the A534 Old Mill Road. Lanes one and two of four are closed.”
