Two teenagers released on bail after Stoke-on-Trent stand-off


Two teenagers who were arrested following a three-hour stand off in Stoke-on-Trent have been released on bail as police continue to investigate.

Officers attended an address on Grove Road, Mount Pleasant, to reports of people breaching Covid-19 regulations by hosting a gathering on Saturday at around 8.50pm.

But armed officers were then called to the scene after one of the occupants was seen to have what looked like a handgun.

Trained negotiators were deployed at 9.20pm and a 19-year-old man, from Stoke, was arrested for possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

A second male, aged 15, from Stoke-on-Trent, was detained for resisting a constable in the execution of their duty following negotiations at around 11.30pm.

A replica, gas powered pistol was recovered from inside the property.

Now officers have revealed the two teenagers have been released on bail.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Officers attended an address on Grove Road, Fenton, Stoke, at about 8.50pm on Saturday (28 November) to reports of people breaching Covid-19 regulations by hosting a gathering.

“One of the occupants was seen to have what looked like a handgun so armed officers and trained negotiators were deployed at about 9.20pm, but the unarmed officers were able to detain one male, aged 19, from Stoke, for possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

“A second male, aged 15, from Stoke, was detained for resisting a constable in the execution of their duty after negotiations at about 11.30pm.

“A replica, gas powered pistol was recovered from inside the property.

“Both males have since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
