Stoke City have turned to Tyrese Campbell’s mate to help solve their Tyrese Campbell problem.
Campbell was in electric form leading Stoke City’s charge in the Championship as an outside right under Michael O’Neill this season – and the club was third in the as-it-stands table when he suffered a knee ligament injury against Cardiff in early December.
Stoke have struggled for goals in his absence but the transfer window has given O’Neill a chance to bring in reinforcements.
And the first signing through the door is Rabbi Matondo, who was just starting out at Manchester City as Campbell was heading to Stoke.
The two remain mates and, after five days of waiting for the deal to get over the line, Campbell greeted today’s confirmation with the Tweet: “About time!”
And he followed up with the line that he’ll make sure he’s back by the start of next season to take over again.
Matondo is available to make his debut in the FA Cup against Leicester on Saturday.
He posted on Twitter: “Can’t wait to get started. Big game on the weekend. Let’s go!”
