Whole year group at this school told to self-isolate after Covid-19 case

A high school has told a whole year group of GCSE pupils to stay at home today after a classmate tested positive for coronavirus.

Chesterton Community Sports College has advised Year 11 students to self-isolate following the confirmed case.

The school is now seeking further guidance before deciding when the teenagers can return to class.

Families were sent a message last night, informing them of the coronavirus case and the steps that were being taken.

The message read: “We have had a confirmed case of Covid-19 within Year 11. We have taken all the relevant advice from Public Health England and we have been advised that this year group will have to self-isolate from school.

“We will advise parents of the exact dates of return following further conversations with Public Health England.”

Chesterton Community Sports College stressed ‘the safety of our pupils is paramount and all precautions will be taken’.

A number of other secondary schools with Covid-19 cases have initially kept off a whole year group before establishing who has come into close contact with the infected person. They have then allowed other students to return, with just a smaller number isolating for the full 14 days.

StokeonTrentLive has approached Chesterton Community Sports College for comment.
