Why Stoke City forward Tyrese Campbell will respond well to injury setback

Tyrese Campbell has the right mindset to bounce back from his potentially season-ending knee injury, his dad Kevin has said.

The Stoke City forward landed awkwardly during last week’s 2-1 defeat to Cardiff and the club expect him to miss most of the remainder of the Championship campaign.

Campbell had been in superb form at the Bet365 Stadium this season when the injury struck, the 20-year-old racking up six goals and seven assists in 16 Championship games.

But while injuries can knock a player’s confidence and their form when they eventually return, Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell believes his son has the right mentality to respond positively.

“It is all part and parcel of the game,” Kevin Campbell told Football Insider.

“Unfortunately, it has come at a time when he was really getting a good run in the team. He was playing well but these things happen.

“I spoke to him and he is just focused on the operation, coming back and being stronger. He has got a very good mindset and he always has had. That would help him through a difficult time.

“It is important to approach an injury in the right way. He is of course gutted that he cannot help Stoke moving forward but he has his own battle on.

“He needs to focus on his recovery and that is what he will do. I am very proud of him for having that mindset.”

Tyrese Campbell leads Stoke’s goalscoring charts so it’s perhaps not a huge surprise that in the first two games without him, Michael O’Neill’s men have failed to find the net, drawing 0-0 at Derby and QPR.

They have a chance to correct that at home to Blackburn on Saturday.
