Furious Tanya Burndred repeatedly punched a police officer – because he was arresting her boyfriend.
The 30-year-old was under the influence of drink or drugs when she took exception to the early hours arrest in Burslem.
The offence put her in breach of a suspended jail sentence which she received last year for assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
Now Burndred has been jailed for 20 weeks at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.
The arrest was made in Waterloo Road in the early hours of March 4. Three of her punches connected with the officer – two to his stab vest and one to his nose. The officer complained of reddening to his nose.
And when she was arrested, Burndred said, ‘I banged him, it is what it is’.
Burndred, latterly of The Crown Hotel, Longton, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker by beating and failing to answer bail.
Garath Davies, mitigating, said the defendant had been the victim of an assault on the night she assaulted the officer.
He added: “She accepts she was in drink and behaved in an inappropriate way.”
District Judge Kevin Grego activated 10 weeks of the suspended prison sentence and added another 10 weeks for punching the officer.
He told her: “You are before the court for another violent outburst against a public servant who, in difficult circumstances and in the middle of the night, was having to deal with the usual problem of people who have had too much to drink or taken drugs.
“You had an argument with your ill-chosen partner. If he was arrested, that is a problem for him, but for you to take it out on the police is unacceptable.”
