A woman has died and a man and two children have been taken to hospital following a traffic accident in the Staffordshire Moorlands this afternoon.
Emergency services, including two air ambulances, were called to the A523 Ashbourne Road, Bottomhouse – between Leek and Ashbourne shortly before 4pm today (Wednesday February 26) following a crash involving a pick-up truck and and a lorry.
The woman, who was in her 60s and a passenger in the Toyta Hilux, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said: “Just before 3.55pm this afternoon (Wednesday 26 February), police were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a black Toyota Hilux and a grey Foden Tipper HGV on the Leek to Ashbourne Road (A523) at Bottomhouse at the junction with the B5053.
“Sadly, a passenger in the Toyota, a woman in her 60s, died at the scene. The driver, a man in his 60s, and two children were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital by ambulance.
“The driver of the HGV was not injured.
“Specialist officers are supporting the woman’s family.
“Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the vehicles before the collision or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to contact 101, quoting incident 426 of 26 February.”
The road remained closed as of 7.50pm tonight.
