Woman in distress spotted on bridge above A500 in Stoke-on-Trent



Police have been called out after a woman in distress was spotted on a bridge above the A500 in Stoke-on-Trent.

Officers were dispatched to Stoke Road bridge at the junction for Stoke and Shelton at around 3.50am this morning.

On arrival, police negotiators began talking the woman down and by 5.30am the situation had been safely resolved.

The D-Road had been closed while the incident was dealt with and reopened shortly after its conclusion.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 3.50am to reports of a vulnerable female on the wrong side of railings at the Stoke Road bridge.

“She is now safely with officers. The A500 was closed or the duration of the incident.”
