An inquest has been opened after a 37-year-old man was found dead at home.
The body of Nicholas Jackson was found in his flat on Wardle Street, in Tunstall, on May 11.
He had last been seen alive by a social worker three days earlier.
North Staffordshire assistant coroner Sarah Murphy said: “A social worker went to the property on May 11 to deliver a bed. They knocked on the door but there was no answer. They opened the door and found Mr Jackson in bed and not breathing. They called 999.”
Police and paramedics attended and nothing could be done to save Nicholas.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called by the police at 1.45pm. One ambulance attended and sadly we confirmed one man deceased at the scene.”
A cause of death was given as hypertensive heart disease. Obesity-related sleep apnoea had also contributed to his death.
Ms Murphy added: “An inquest will be necessary.”
