71 people who tested positive for Covid-19 at Royal Stoke & County hospitals have now died

Another six people who have tested positive for Covid-19 have died at the University Hospital of North Midlands Trust – according to figures released by NHS England today.

The number brings the total of deaths of those confirmed to have coronavirus at the trust – which consists of Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and County Hospital in Stafford – up to 71.

This is up from the 65 confirmed as of yesterday’s update – with the hospital trust also confirming yesterday that beds at community hospitals in the area including Haywood, Leek, Cheadle and Bradwell would be used to care for Covid-19 patients as the pandemic caused demand to increase.

Another five deaths have also been confirmed at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – which includes Crewe’s Leighton Hospital – bringing the total there up to 34.

The East Cheshire NHS Trust – which includes Macclesfield Hospital and Congleton War Memorial Hospital – has now recorded 16 deaths, up from 13 in yesterday’s update.

NHS England has today confirmed another 765 deaths at English hospitals – a slight decrease from the 828 confirmed yesterday.
