Popular department store Debenhams has been part of furniture at The Potteries Centre, ever since it it opened in the late 90s.
But now, the high street retailer has announced the store’s final opening date – and it’s in just over a week.
Some branches will close on May 12, but the Hanley branch is set to close three days later, on May 15.
City centre shoppers were sad to hear that a closing date had been confirmed as the shelves were practically stripped bare.
Kayleigh Mayer, from Sneyd Green, said: “I popped in to see if there were any bargains, and I managed to get a couple of tops and a few make-up items.
“It was quite sad seeing it to empty, especially the make-up counters. It’s a bit like a ghost town up there.”
Sharon Bailey, 52, from Hanley, added: “I’ll miss having a wander around. It’s a lovely large shop and you’d rarely come out empty-handed.
“I feel for the staff as they are always so lovely and it’s a shame for them to have lost their jobs. A lot of them have been there a long time.”
On May 5, a Debenhams spokesman said: “Over the next 10 days, Debenhams will close its doors on the high street for the final time in its 242 year history.
“Our sincere thanks go out to all of our colleagues and customers who have joined us on this journey.
“We hope to see you all one last time in stores before we say a final goodbye to the UK high street.”
StokeonTrentLive took a look around the store before it closes its doors for good on May 15.
