Armed police and specialist negotiators were called to a Stoke-on-Trent street.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing at least three police cars including the armed response unit on Portland Street in Hanley Saturday afternoon (April 18).
Staffordshire Police confirmed officers attended the scene.
A spokesman said: “We were called to a report of a man in distress on Portland Street, at 3.38pm on Saturday (18 April).
“Specialist negotiators and armed officers attended.
“Colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended he scene.
“The man was later taken to hospital for the appropriate care and support.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
A spokesman said: “We were called at 3.32pm to a property on Portland Street in Hanley to reports of a medical emergency.
“We sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer.
“On arrival we found one patient, a man, who following assessment and treatment was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.”
