Armed police descend on Stoke-on-Trent street after man ‘seen with weapon’



Armed police descended on a Stoke-on-Trent street after a man was reportedly seen with a weapon.

Eyewitnesses saw the officers on Leek New Road, Cobridge, earlier today (May 12).

It is understood the incident took place outside Super Storage.

A Stoke-on-Trent man is now being questioned on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We attended an incident where a man had reportedly been seen with a weapon at a property in Leek New Road at around 10.20am today.

“Firearms officers attended and a man in his 20s from the local area was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. He remains in custody.”

The incident came just 14 hours after armed police were called to Redhills Road, Milton, following reports a man was threatened with a handgun.

Officers swooped at around 6.30pm yesterday (May 11).

An extensive search of the area was carried out by the firearms teams, but they were unable to find the offender.

Inquiries are now ongoing to trace the suspect.
