Avery sets the standard as Oakamoor secure NSSCL Division Six success



Oakamoor seconds secured the spoils from their home encounter with Hanford in NSSCL Division Six.

Joe Avery was in excellent form with the bat as his half-century provided the cornerstone of Oakamoor’s 229-7 from their 40 overs.

Avery compiled 70, which featured six fours, while Matthew Sells (33) and Jacob Fullick (24) also played their part in a fine home batting performance.

Mohammad Asif claimed 4-28 for Hanford seconds.

Hanford had two players pass the 50 mark in reply – Muhammad Arshad and Asif.

Arshad top-scored with 57 and Asif made 55, but Hanford were dismissed for 165. Sells claimed 3-21 and there were a couple of victims apiece for Mike Worthington, Thomas Hayes and Dan James.

Moddershall & Oulton fifths defeated Endon seconds in their meeting.

A third-wicket stand of 126 between Stephen Powell and James Mason helped the Modd men to 215-3 from their allocation.

Powell finished unbeaten on 89 and Mason made 67 during their excellent partnership. Peter Slinn took two of the wickets to fall.

In reply, Steven Joddrell (48no), Guy Tinwell (30) and Charlie Slinn (29) impressed, but 3-22 from Joe Hawkins left Endon on 171-6 at the close.

Norton in Hales won by four wickets at home against Church Eaton.

Church Eaton posted 178-8 early in the afternoon thanks to Jordan Talbot’s 40 and 33 from Douglas Hughes.

Charlie Hine, Simon Line and Oliver Tinsley all struck twice.

Norton in Hales crossed the line inside 33 overs as Scott Lawrenson and Line hit half-centuries. Lawrenson smashed six fours and five sixes n his 65 not out, with Line crashing two fours and half-a-dozen sixes in his 51.

And with James Ruscoe making 31, Norton in Hales banked the win, despite a couple of wickets from Hughes.
