Police have called of the search for a missing man following the discovery of a body.
Phillip Murphy had not been seen since April 2 with officers asking for the public’s help to find him exactly a week ago.
At one point the National Police Air Service helicopter was brought in as efforts to locate the 60-year-old were stepped up.
But police have confirmed a body – believed to be Phillip – was found at Borrowpit Lake in Tamworth this morning (April 11).
Formal identification is expected to take place in the next few days.
There are not believed to be an suspicious circumstances.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Officers have called off the search for missing person Phillip Murphy, who was last seen in Tamworth on Thursday, April 2.
“Sadly, the body of a man, believed to be 60-year-old Phillip, was found late this morning at Borrowpit Lake in Tamworth.
“His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“We would like to thank colleagues, partner agencies and the public for their assistance and support during the search.
Formal identification will take place in due course. Detectives do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner.
